Soft Geometry in Pully
A Contemporary Master Suite Designed Around Warmth, Texture, and Light
Pully
Switzerland
Client Overview and Design Brief
Located in Pully, this project involved the redesign of an exceptionally spacious master suite composed of a large bedroom, an adjoining en-suite bathroom, and a dedicated dressing area.
The client envisioned a contemporary and calming environment with a strong sense of comfort and understated elegance. Rather than creating an overly decorative interior, the objective was to focus on atmosphere, materiality, and architectural composition.
The project centered around the idea of creating a softer and more immersive private suite experience through:
layered textures
integrated lighting
minimalist furniture selections
and strong architectural focal points
A key request from the client was the use of wall-to-wall silk carpeting throughout the bedroom in order to enhance comfort, warmth, and acoustic softness within the space.
Project Objectives
Creating a Calm and Sophisticated Master Suite
The project aimed to transform the bedroom into a refined and emotionally soothing environment while maintaining a clean contemporary language.
The intention was to create a space that would feel:
warm yet minimalist
architectural yet comfortable
elegant without feeling overly formal
Every design decision was therefore carefully balanced between visual simplicity and tactile richness.
Establishing a Strong Architectural Feature
Rather than relying on excessive decoration, the design focused on creating one powerful architectural statement within the room.
The wall behind the bed became the defining visual feature of the project through the introduction of a large custom wall composition integrating:
geometric patterns
contrasting textures
warm wood finishes
mineral surfaces
and integrated LED lighting
This intervention completely transformed the visual identity of the bedroom while preserving a calm and cohesive atmosphere.
Improving Comfort and Functionality
Beyond aesthetics, the project also included a full upgrade of the electrical infrastructure in order to support modern lighting scenarios and improve everyday functionality throughout the suite.
The bedroom, dressing area, and en-suite bathroom were all conceived as part of one unified living experience rather than separate disconnected spaces.
Design Approach
Designing Around Texture and Softness
One of the defining elements of the project was the decision to install wall-to-wall silk carpeting throughout the bedroom.
This choice immediately transformed the atmosphere of the space by introducing:
visual softness
acoustic comfort
tactile warmth
and a stronger sense of luxury and intimacy
The silk carpet also helped balance the cleaner architectural lines and geometric elements introduced elsewhere in the room.
The result is a bedroom that feels calm, enveloping, and highly comfortable without becoming visually heavy.
Creating a Sculptural Feature Wall
The custom wall behind the bed became the central architectural gesture of the project.
The composition combines:
geometric paneling
wood textures
mineral-inspired finishes
and integrated LED lighting concealed within selected lines and joints
This layered treatment gives the wall depth, rhythm, and visual movement while maintaining an elegant and controlled composition.
During the evening, the integrated lighting dramatically changes the perception of the room, creating a softer and more atmospheric environment.
The feature wall ultimately allowed the project to achieve a strong visual identity without relying on excessive ornamentation.
Maintaining a Minimalist Furniture Language
In order to allow the architectural elements to remain the focus, the bed itself was intentionally kept minimalist and understated.
Soft forms, neutral upholstery, and restrained detailing helped create balance within the room while preventing the space from feeling visually overloaded.
The lighting fixtures above the bed introduced an additional sculptural layer, adding transparency, lightness, and visual elegance to the overall composition.
Together, these elements created a carefully balanced dialogue between minimalism and warmth.
Refining the Existing Architecture
Particular attention was given to refining the architectural framework already present within the space.
The existing ceiling beams and structural elements were repainted in white in order to:
lighten the visual perception of the ceiling
create greater brightness
and reinforce the clean contemporary atmosphere desired by the client
This intervention also helped create stronger continuity between the bedroom, dressing area, and en-suite bathroom.
Implementation Considerations
Integrating the Lighting Infrastructure
Because lighting played such a central role within the project, the electrical system required a complete redesign and careful coordination.
The new infrastructure was developed to support:
integrated LED detailing
ambient lighting scenarios
decorative suspension lighting
and improved functional lighting throughout the suite
Special attention was given to ensuring that all technical integrations remained visually discreet within the final architectural composition.
Balancing Geometry and Warmth
One of the key challenges of the project was maintaining emotional warmth despite the strong geometric language of the feature wall.
This balance was achieved through:
warm wood tones
soft textiles
indirect lighting
silk carpeting
and restrained neutral furnishings
The result is an environment that feels contemporary and architectural while remaining deeply inviting and livable.
Outcome
The completed master suite now feels significantly more refined, immersive, and emotionally engaging.
The combination of custom architectural detailing, integrated lighting, soft material layering, and minimalist furnishings transformed the space into a calm contemporary retreat tailored entirely to the client’s lifestyle.
The feature wall became the defining identity of the room, while the silk carpeting and carefully controlled lighting introduced a strong sense of comfort and intimacy throughout the suite.
Most importantly, the project successfully created a seamless relationship between the bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and dressing area — allowing the entire space to function as one cohesive and elevated private living environment.
