Client Overview and Design Brief

A family of three residing in a home with expansive views of Lake Geneva sought to enhance their living room by creating defined spaces while maintaining the room's inherent spaciousness and lake view.

Project Objectives

•Spatial Definition:Establish distinct functional zones within the open-plan living area to enhance organization and usability.

•Aesthetic Integration:Design a cohesive and elegant space that complements the existing architecture and maximizes the lake view.

•Functional Storage:Incorporate a large wall unit to provide ample storage for smaller items, reducing clutter and maintaining a clean aesthetic.

•TV Console Design: Create a custom TV console that harmonizes with the overall design of the room, offering both functionality and style.

Design Approach

•Custom Wall Unit:Developed, manufactured and installed a bespoke, floor-to-ceiling wall unit that served as both a functional storage solution and a visual centrepiece. This unit delineated areas such as the seating and dining areas, and the art display unit without obstructing the lake view.

•Open Shelving:Integrated open shelving within the wall unit to display decorative items, books, and personal artifacts, adding character and personalization to the space.

•Material Selection:Utilized wood and fluted glass to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that resonated with the surrounding environment.

•Colour Palette:Employed a light and neutral colour scheme with accents that reflected the hues of Lake Geneva, ensuring the design complemented the natural surroundings.

•Lighting:Incorporated layered lighting, including ambient, task, and accent lighting, to enhance functionality and highlight design features.

•TV Console Design: Designed a custom TV console that incorporated elements from the wall unit, providing a cohesive look. The console offered storage for media devices and accessories, ensuring a clutter-free environment.

Implementation Considerations

•Structural Assessment:Evaluated the existing structure to ensure the wall unit could be securely installed without compromising the integrity of the space.

•View Preservation:Designed the wall unit to allow uninterrupted views of Lake Geneva.

•Family Lifestyle:Considered the family's lifestyle and storage needs to ensure the wall unit accommodated all necessary items while maintaining an organized and clutter-free environment.
