A Calm Renewal

A Contemporary Home for a Thoughtful Life

Lausanne

Switzerland

This apartment, located in Ouchy, was passed down to a young professional who wished to reinvent it entirely. While the home carried emotional heritage, its interior no longer matched the client's lifestyle — one that blends calm focus, refined aesthetics, and occasional entertaining. The client requested a full renovation: one that would deliver a serene yet characterful atmosphere — a space where he could work comfortably from home, host friends with ease, and feel entirely at peace.

Client Overview and Design Brief

This apartment, located in Ouchy, was passed down to a young professional who wished to reinvent it entirely. While the home carried emotional heritage, its interior no longer matched the client's lifestyle — one that blends calm focus, refined aesthetics, and occasional entertaining. The client requested a full renovation: one that would deliver a serene yet characterful atmosphere — a space where he could work comfortably from home, host friends with ease, and feel entirely at peace.

Project Objectives

•Fully renovate the apartment to suit modern needs while maintaining a sense of inherited continuity

•Create a quiet, elegant atmosphere with expressive accents

•Integrate a custom-designed sofa to fit the living room’s proportions

•Introduce a dual-purpose living space for both work and hosting

•Refresh the bedroom using the same minimalist and refined approach

Design Approach

We approached the project with clarity and restraint. The colorpalette was kept soft and neutral, allowing natural light to do most of the work.

In the living room, a bold black accent wall was introduced to define the space and bring depth. It acts as a visual anchor for a striking black-and-white artwork, paired with directional lighting to dramatize the effect without overwhelming.

A custom-made modular sofa, upholstered in textured off-white fabric, was tailored to wrap around the space and allow for both lounging and conversation. In front, two circular travertine-style coffee tables add a sculptural softness and material contrast.

To accommodate the client’s professional needs, a minimal desk area was integrated by the window — visually light, yet fully functional.

The fireplace was updated with a clean marble surround, becoming the visual center of the room. Accessories were kept minimal: curated vases, soft cushions, and natural foliage enhance the space without clutter.

The bedroom, though not shown here, followed the same design DNA — calm tones, minimal furniture, and subtle contrasts in texture.

Implementation Considerations

All walls were freshly repainted in matte white and charcoal black

The original floors were replaced with warm-toned natural oak parquet, bringing unity and brightness

Custom joinery and made-to-measure upholstery ensured a perfect fit in the living room

Lighting was layered: track lights, sconces, and accent lamps offer flexibility between work and leisure

Furniture, accessories, and artwork were sourced or fabricated to harmonize tonally with the architectural palette

Outcome

The final result is a composed, expressive home that responds to the rhythm of modern life — whether for work, rest, or gathering with friends. It celebrates personal identity while maintaining calm elegance. The transformation reflects a shift not just in aesthetics but in lifestyle — from inherited to intentional, from formal to lived-in.
This is no longer just a family home. It is now his home, thoughtfully reborn.
