Client Overview and Design Brief

A repeat client who sought to create a formal dining room within their home. The goal was to provide a dedicated space for hosting formal dinners, with a refined and sophisticated atmosphere.

Project Objectives

•Convert Open Kitchen to Closed Kitchen: The original open kitchen space was enclosed to create a more formal dining atmosphere. This separation allowed for a dedicated, private dining space.

•Emphasize Space Separation: To clearly differentiate the dining room from the kitchen, we used a bold design element—painting the ceiling glossy leather black, which added an element of sophistication and focus to the dining area.

•Custom Wall Panels: To enhance the room’s aesthetic and add texture, we designed and installed custom wood wall panels, adding warmth and style to the space.

•Visual Representation: Given the importance of visual impact, we created 3D visuals to represent the design, helping the client clearly visualize the proposed transformation before construction began.

Design Approach

•Space Planning: We designed the dining area to be a formal yet welcoming space, with a layout that allows for ease of movement and interaction. The new closed kitchen created a sense of privacy and focus for the dining experience.

•Ceiling Design: The glossy leather black ceiling was chosen to bring an air of sophistication and highlight the separation of spaces. It also provided a unique contrast against the lighter tones in the rest of the room.

•Wood Panels: Custom wall panels were designed to bring texture and warmth to the formal dining room, using natural wood tones that complement the glossy black ceiling and other materials.

•Lighting: Thoughtful lighting choices were made to highlight the dining area while maintaining a cozy and formal ambiance for the space.

Implementation Considerations

•Aesthetic Balance: We ensured the materials, colours, and textures worked together to create a formal yet inviting space. The contrast between the glossy black ceiling, custom wood panels, and neutral tones helped create the perfect dining environment.

•Functionality: The space was designed not only to look great but also to function seamlessly for formal dinners, with appropriate lighting and a layout that supports the needs of the space.

Outcome

The dining room was transformed into a formal, stylish, and comfortable space. The separation from the kitchen was emphasized with the bold ceiling design and custom wood panels. The client now has a space perfect for hosting guests in a sophisticated yet welcoming environment.
