Client Overview and Design Brief

A couple, working remotely, sought our expertise in transforming a summer house they had recently purchased in Algarve, Portugal. They wanted the space to reflect the region’s natural beauty while providing them with a comfortable, airy retreat conducive to their laid-back lifestyle.

Project Objectives

Concept Development: Our team developed a comprehensive design concept that balanced the beauty of nature with modern comfort. We focused on creating a home that was light, airy, and in harmony with the local landscape, allowing the couple to fully immerse themselves in the relaxed lifestyle of the Algarve region.
Furniture Sourcing and Procurement: We carefully curated furniture that aligned with the design ethos of the project. The furniture pieces were selected to reflect the light, organic feel of the space, using natural materials like wood, linen, and rattan. The seating arrangements were designed for comfort, and we sourced rugs, lighting, and decorative accents to complement the overall aesthetic. Once finalized, we handled the shipping and ensured all the furniture arrived directly at their new home in Algarve.

Design Approach

Renovation Collaboration: While our role focused on the design and furniture selection, we collaborated closely with our architect partners in Portugal for the renovation work. This collaboration ensured that the renovation process was aligned with our design vision, and that all aspects of the structure, from the layout to the finishes, embraced the natural aesthetic we had planned.
Natural Materials and Design Elements: Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, we incorporated a range of natural elements throughout the space. The design featured light woods, stone textures, and natural fibres like linen, cotton, and rattan, reflecting the local climate and bringing warmth and texture into the interiors.

Implementation Considerations

Local Architect Collaboration: We worked closely with our architect partners to coordinate the renovation and ensure the design was realized to the highest standard.
Weather Resistance: We carefully considered the local climate and environmental factors, selecting materials that would not only enhance the aesthetic but also stand up to the Algarve weather. This included durable wood finishes, moisture-resistant textiles, and stone that would stay true to its natural beauty over time.
Supplier Coordination: Our project coordination team ensured all suppliers were aligned, from sourcing and shipping the furniture to the installation of custom woodwork.
